COVID-19 Diagnostic Testing

COVID-19 Diagnostic Testing

COVID-19 is an infection primarily focused on the upper respiratory system. It was initially detected in China in December 2019 and quickly spread worldwide, with over 38,000 cases reported in Connecticut as of May 20, 2020. The young age of the virus has made it difficult to determine certain information, including an effective vaccination and long-term effects from infection. AFC Urgent Care Danbury is performing COVID-19 diagnostic testing at all three locations and offering mobile testing for employers or living facilities including nursing homes and assisted living.

Symptoms of COVID-19

Symptoms of COVID-19 may vary case to case from mild to severe. Many patients have not exhibited symptoms at all, though asymptomatic patients are just as contagious as symptomatic patients. Symptoms develop between two and fourteen days after initial exposure to the virus, which can happen through direct contact or community spread. Symptoms include:

  • Fever
  • Shortness of breath
  • Dry, persistent cough
  • Head and body aches
  • Congestion
  • Recent loss of smell and/or taste

COVID-19 Diagnostic Testing

AFC Urgent Care Danbury is able to perform NAAT/PCR testing on patients seven days a week. The test is performed via a sample taken from a swab of your lower nasal cavity. It takes only a few moments and is painless to you. After the sample is taken, it will be tested for the active COVID-19 virus and results will be available in 3-5 business days depending on lab capacity or any unforeseen circumstances.

***Disclaimer: Certain insurers may require a copayment.

Mobile COVID-19 Testing

AFC Urgent Care Danbury is offering mobile COVID-19 diagnostic and antibody testing for local businesses, nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Our staff will be able to set up a tent outside of your facility to perform testing. Diagnostic testing is available for residential businesses, and diagnostic and antibody testing is available for businesses as employees start returning to work.

AFC Urgent Care FAQs

  • Why does AFC provide two different COVID tests?

We offer a rapid test because they provide highly reliable results on the spot; however, they do produce more false negatives than the RT-PCR COVID-19 Test. Doing both tests is our way of ensuring that you get the most accurate results possible without having to put your life on hold.

  • How long does it take to get a COVID test?

We're able to get many patients in and out in a matter of minutes, but the length of time you'll spend in our clinic will depend on wait times that day.

  • How much does it cost to get a COVID test?

That will ultimately depend on your insurance coverage. Presently, many people with insurance are able to get tested at no charge. If you’re uninsured, AFC’s cash pay prices are highly competitive – contact us for the details.
