Flu Prevention and Treatment

As we enter flu season, has prevention tips we want you to pay attention to. We offer the flu vaccine here at our urgent care center, and urge everyone, especially those falling into the categories below to lessen their chances of getting the influenza virus, and get the flu shot.

The flu vaccine is recommended especially for infants older than 6 months, healthy adults who would like to decrease their risk of getting the flu, people living with or caring for children younger than 5 months of age, anyone at high risk for complications from flu such as people with: asthma, cancer or people undergoing cancer treatment, chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), cystic fibrosis, diabetes, HIV/AIDS, kidney or liver disease, obesity.

People who should not get the flu vaccine:

According to the Mayo Clinic, there are certain people for whom the flu vaccine is not recommended. These include: people who have had prior severe reactions to the flu vaccine, and interestingly enough, people who have egg allergies, as the flu vaccine does contain a small amount of egg protein.
